Love at First Sight!

Love at First Sight!

After arriving Wednesday night, after a exceptionally smooth travel day, I could hardly sleep.  Our driver picked us up 15 minutes early to drive us by a lake where we might see some alligators, Lake Monroe.  Sadly, we did not see any alligators, however the area was beautiful with many condos facing the lake and a lake side coffee cafe which was calling my name.  The picture below Kevin took doesn’t even do it justice.

Kevin also snapped the photo below.  First time on the road we have ever followed a truck with an air boat 🙂

As we pulled in we saw our our RV and looked just as amazing if not more so than the photos conveyed.  Pretty exciting to see the Sold sign in the window.

First thing was the walk thru with Phil was GREAT!!!!  There was so much info to absorb, we recorded most of it to refer to later.  Really was having a hard time believing it as true after dreaming about it for so many years.

Next was the first drive and Kevin did great.  We went to a big grassy area on the empty fairgrounds.  Kevin practiced his turns and backing up and I learned all the hand signals to be the “spotter.”

Signed all of the paperwork and one of the jacks needed to be replaced so we got out of the dealer late.  Arrived at Wekiva Falls around 7 and it gets dark earlier here being so far south.  The office had closed and a security guy took us to our site #827.  There were no pull through spots open which was kind of scary.  We were lucky and the site behind us was empty and we did get to pull in straight – no backing in on our maiden voyage. Whew.  Kevin hooked up the water, sewer, electric and cable in under 10 minutes and totally impressed me 🙂

The photo above is the view out our front window after we got parked.   We unpacked 2 or our small bags and made tea for the 1st time in our new home away from home.  We did not have much time and our 2 big suitcases were still at the dealer.  We had to be back there at 9 am to have our new windshield installed.  I had done a lot of shopping from home and used Amazon Prime and had shipped here to the dealer and was all here ready for us.  Had ordered a faux down comforter, set of sheets and pillowcases and bamboo pillows which I had no clue about. We had a great night’s sleep and our bedroom was so cozy.  Still need to get a duvet cover and one of the pillowcases came faded.

Got up the next morning and had our 1st Shakeology in the RV.  We packed our old Vitamix and it worked well enough.   And then headed back to the dealer for a day of debacles.  More about that in the next blog post:)

  1. I’m sure there will be many trials and tribulations (all part of a big adventure). I am so impressed that Kevin is driving that bus! I wonder if Jim and I would have the guts. Had he ever driven a large RV before? I hope the bumps along the way aren’t too steep. I am very excited for you both. Jim hasn’t retired yet, but I am starting to feel like it is time for us to start building some dreams

    1. Kevin did a 5 minute test drive in San Diego with one a couple of feet shorter 🙂 He is doing great and says it just takes come getting used to. When I see all of the people driving the big city buses I figured he would figure it. Have only driven 30ish miles so far and tomorrow is our 1st big drive. Yes, start planning NOW. It is so exciting. xox

  2. If you are dying to see alligators (and have a really nice walk), stop at Payne’s Prarie in Gainesville. The La Chua Trail always has hundreds of alligators hanging around sunning themselves- it is a nature preserve, not a zoo, so you can literally walk right up to them (but don’t do that). http://floridahikes.com/paynes-prairie-lachua
